The writing is at its best when author, Richard Donald, is setting a scene. The opening at the rugby match is so well crafted I could almost smell the muddy turf, and hear the vertebra crunching. He is also adept (reminiscent of Ian Fleming or Tom Clancy) in identifying the military hardware that is used. Donald's sense of place is also exceptional and also helps the reader suspend disbelief in what is far outside the common experience. The script is devoid of humour, except for a couple of fat guy pratfalls, but this is no distraction in a movie about arms dealers, terrorists, religious fanatics, metaphysical abstraction and spiritual enlightenment. Whether a reader appreciates this story or not, he or she would surely acknowledge that Richard Donald has vast story telling talent.
