 Heroes
or The Real Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles
By: Jamie Horncastle
This is the story of four teenage boys as they become adults. On the last day of school, Ralph Halladay watches in amazement as his three friends stand up to the school's notorious bullies. Only days later two of his friends are in hospital, their condition critical. Driven by his loyalty to his friends, he agrees to help get revenge on the boys who put them there, although it's only once they've accomplished their revenge that Ralph realizes that his friends want more. They imagine themselves to be the superheroes they have watched in the films, or read about in the comicbooks. Only Ralph realizes the danger of what they're getting into, and he desperately tries to make his friends see sense. Yet as adolescence becomes adulthood he finds himself being sucked into their fantasy, and before long finds himself relishing his double life as a nocturnal vigilante. He cannot shake the idea that there is a baddie out there somewhere, waiting for them, preparing their downfall, and he must convince his friends to stop their dangerous game before it's too late. If, that is, he can convince himself.
